Project Overview

Wild Coffee is an approximately 1,500 sq.ft. café in Shanghai created through the adaptive reuse of shipping containers. The project transforms a compact modular structure into a hospitality environment that connects indoor café functions with its surrounding outdoor setting.

Key Design Considerations

  • Adapt standard shipping containers for commercial hospitality use

  • Maximize usable space within a narrow modular structure

  • Create an efficient relationship between service, seating and circulation

  • Strengthen the connection between indoor space and the surrounding landscape

  • Introduce natural light while maintaining the structural character of the containers

  • Balance durable commercial materials with a relaxed café atmosphere

Design Approach

  • Used the container module as the starting point for spatial planning
